Johannes Neumann's interests include modeling and simulation of heterogeneous materials, finite element methods, and numerical methods in general.

Johannes studied Computational Engineering Science at RWTH Aachen University. He did his diploma thesis at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute under a DAAD scholarship. He then moved within RWTH Aachen University to civil engineering at the Institute of Applied Mechanics of Prof. Reese. After initial work in the subject area of "Finite Element Technology", he worked on the modeling and simulation of asphalt as a road construction material. He received his PhD with distinction on this topic in 2018. After several years as head of the Design and Simulation Department at a spin-off of the Institute of Road Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, Johannes joined the chair of Computational Applied Mechanics as lecturer and group leader in November 2022.
